Pyruvate testing is not routinely offered. All Pyruvate requests must first be discussed by the requesting clinician with the Chemical Pathology Registrar (0429 537 546 - in business hours) or the on call Chemical Pathologist (out of hours - by contacting your local dept. of Chemical Pathology).

The Chemical Pathology registrar or pathologist, having approved Pyruvate testing using the above protocol, must alert the Semi automated section at Randwick of the request.
The semi automated section will forward the required collection tube with collection instructions for the doctor and more detailed sample handling instructions for the laboratory.
Once collected the sample must be weighed and the weight clearly noted on the sticker on the sample.
Centrifuge and remove the clear supernatant into the fresh tube. Send both the primary tube and tube containing the supernatant to Pathology QLD Specimen Reception Block 7 Level 3 Herston Hospitals campus Herston Rd Herston QLD 4029
